URGENT UPDATE after UK increases response to Coronavirus
To be actioned by UK volunteers, for reference for Republic of Ireland volunteers (In addition to the guidance to the guidance provided to the Republic of Ireland last week).
As of 5pm yesterday (16/03/2020), the UK has strengthened its response to Coronavirus, including giving guidance on working practices, reduced social contact and self-isolation in the event of symptoms (or contact with people with symptoms).
Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the announcement, saying the measures to combat the spread of Coronavirus will remain in place until further notice. He said the action had to be taken to try to delay the transmission of Coronavirus and keep people safe.
Following this news, and in order that the RNLI follows UK guidelines, please find below advice and guidance for UK, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Island based RNLI staff and volunteers. This guidance is broadly consistent with that provided to the Republic of Ireland last Thursday.
Advice for RNLI staff and volunteers:
Our two priorities are:
-
The wellbeing of volunteers and staff; and
-
The preservation of the RNLI’s lifesaving service.
The following instructions are designed to achieve these aims and rely on us all making sensible personal decisions and playing our part.
Non-operational
Indoor and outdoor RNLI events and gatherings should be cancelled e.g. fundraising activity and school visits.
All RNLI shops, museums and visitor centres must close until further notice (because they will attract public interest and visitors to stations).
Station access
RNLI stations must be closed to all but operational personnel and only operationally essential activities such as training, exercises, maintenance and emergency responses should be undertaken.
All in-station meetings must cease unless critical to the immediate need of delivering the service.
Training
We are urgently assessing operational training requirements and in particular, training delivered at the RNLI College in Poole. Further advice will be given on this in the next 48-hours, but it is our intention to preserve, as far as possible, the delivery of operational training to staff and volunteers.
Flanking stations
In order to avoid cross infection, minimise travel between stations. Critical visits only. Avoid direct travel to one or more flanking stations sequentially where practical.
We are closely monitoring the situation, but this is fast-moving and so everyone should be aware that things could change with little or no notice. Please share this information with all your volunteers.
Further guidance can be sought through your Line Manager. For the latest information please check the Volunteer Zone.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact your Community Manager or the Volunteer Experience Team on 0300 300 0128 or CommunitySupportTeam@rnli.org.uk

Sad news
May 18
We have recently been made aware of the sad passing of Jill Rooke. A long time supporter and good friend of the branch. Jill has suffered from a recent illness and was taken from us. We send our condolences to Nick Rooke and offer support at this sad time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2018 has started badly with the passing of another esteemed colleague Mr Mike Rogers of Dudley, Kingswinford ,and Brierley Hill Branch. Mike often worked alongside Wolverhampton and Stourbridge aided by his good lady Ann Rogers. We extend our deepest sympathy to Ann and the branch in their sad loss.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sad news has reached us of the passing of an esteemed colleague and very generous volunteer from Knowle & Dorridge branch. Mr Bob Wooldridge was always ready to help another branch with moving the display lifeboat and even helping with restoration of the display boats when required. the boats were often stored by Bob at his home. This was beside the volunteering for his local branch Knowle & Dorridge. Bob will be sadly missed by many branches and volunteer colleagues.

We have to announce the sad news that Mr Malcolm Timmins has passed this week due to suffering from Parkinsons Disease for recent years.. Malcolm was a former Chairman, Treasurer, and was heavily involved with the fundraising of the Atlantic 21 RNLB Wolverhampton in the mid 1970's. We wish to convey our deepest sympathy to Joan, Simon and David along with their respective families.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have recently learned of the loss of Mr Brian Ralph from West Bromwich branch due to illness. Brian was a respected colleague and presenter for many years and headed the Sandwell Lifeline appeal. RIP Brian.
We are currently looking for new members to join the branch as collectors and / or commitee members. Any one who wishes to be involved for just a couple of hours a month to help fund-raise for the RNLI in Wolverhampton, please get in touch through the contact us page. We can promise that every minute of your time will be worthwhile helping to save lives around the uk and Ireland coasts without leaving Wolverhampton.
